The Henry Vilas Zoo is located in the heart of Madison, WI. The Carousel, a centerpiece of a new children’s zoo, is housed in a unique building, located at the South end of the Zoo.
The carousel features thirty-six (36) hand-carved animals and original hand-painted scenes that include scenes from around local Dane County. Many of the carved animals represent endangered species around the world, including the Poison Dart Frog, Okapi, Siberian Tiger, Spectacled Bear, Tapir, Cassowary and Jaguar. The carousel also includes two (2) stationary animal chariots that are ADA/Wheelchair Accessible.
The Henry Vilas Zoo believes their carousel is a vehicle for change. The funds generated for the Conservation Carousel will provide significant revenue to help sustain the Zoo's and the Zoological Society's efforts to continually improve and update animal habitats at the Zoo, further serving the Zoo's education and conservation efforts. Those enjoying a ride on the Carousel will have the satisfaction of knowing they are supporting a vital cause - the preservation of the world's endangered species and the habitats where they live. |
